Family Fun

Our clients in the Sydney suburb of Vaucluse had recently finished their house renovations and were after a garden that really made the most of the new open plan living by creating a seamless extension to the interior living areas. They were also after a child friendly space with a cubby house and a level lawn area. To that end we split the garden into three distinct levels working in with the natural gradient of the site. A decking area with wide shallow steps down creates that all important link to the interior and the placement of an in-built seat across the front of the deck has negated the need for a handrail and has therefore kept the view as open as possible. A curvaceous lawn adds interest and helps to keep the eye in the centre of the garden and away from the neighbouring buildings. Bamboo has been planted that will eventually screen the garden almost completely. The cubby house and screen have been designed to complement each other through the use of a combination of reclaimed and new hardwood timber. In combination they create a very worthwhile feature and really make the rear of the garden into a magical space. A blackboard and mirror bring a further interactive element. Existing sandstone boulders have been re-used in the steps and the seats and add a sense of age to the scheme. Overall the garden has a delightful feel to it that is quite unusual but still compliments the house and setting perfectly.
